The vaccine trials are being coordinated by the African Malaria Network Trust (AMANET), a non-profit making organisation that has been preparing countries in Africa in planning and conducting malaria vaccine trials.
Dr. Roma Chilengi, the clinical trials coordinator for AMANET, said on Monday the vaccine centre would be based at Makerere University.
He, however, said the establishment of the centre was pending the signing of a contractual agreement between AMNET and Makerere University.
"Negotiations to have a centre here have reached very advanced stages. Makerere University was identified as one of the centres in Africa where we could have malaria vaccine trials," Chilengi said.
