Drug Research
Resistance to historically effective antimalarial drugs has contributed to the resurgence of malaria across sub-Saharan Africa in the past decade. The recent discovery of parasitic resistance to Artemisinin monotherapies underscores the urgent need for new and more effective antimalarial treatments.
Medicines for Malaria Venture (MMV)
is a non-profit organization created to discover, develop and deliver new antimalarial drugs through effective public-private partnerships. MMV does this by providing drug companies with supplmental funding, technical expertise and logistical support. It currently has over 20 new products in the pipeline.
